About us

BP Signs is a Durban North signage company working from Briardene and serving businesses across eThekwini, Umhlanga, Pinetown and the KZN North Coast. We make practical signs that suit local conditions, from bright shopfront displays to durable site and vehicle signage.

About us

Built in Briardene for Durban conditions

BP Signs was founded in 2008 by Bongani Patrick Zulu with a simple aim: to give local businesses signage that looks right, lasts well and is fitted properly first time. From our base in Briardene, Durban North, we work across the city and beyond, helping shops, offices, factories and property owners get signs that fit the site, the rules and the weather. Durban heat, salt air and heavy summer rain are not kind to poor materials, so we choose products and finishes with real use in mind.

Over the years, the work has grown from straightforward vinyl cutting into full signage support, including digital printing, light boxes, roll-up banners, Chromadek signs, Perspex and ABS signs, window frosting and contra-vision. We also handle site surveys, artwork setup, large format printing, lamination, fabrication, installation, refurbishments and removals. The goal is not just to make a sign, but to see it installed cleanly and working as it should on the day it goes up.

How our team keeps projects moving

Good signage depends on more than a printer and a drill. It depends on people who understand measurements, sight lines, mounting surfaces, by-law limits and the realities of a busy property. Our team is led by Bongani Patrick Zulu, with Nokuthula Mkhize managing operations, Sashen Naidoo supervising production, Anele Dlamini leading installations, Priya Govender handling graphic design and Lindokuhle Khumalo supporting sales and client coordination.

That structure matters when a client needs a quick turnaround, a replacement panel or an installation arranged around trading hours. We keep the process practical and clear so there is less back and forth. If a job needs a site survey in Umhlanga, a shopfront fit-out in Pinetown, or sign maintenance in Ballito, the right person is involved from the start. It saves time, reduces mistakes and keeps the final result consistent.

  • Site surveys for measuring, planning and checking access
  • Artwork setup and print preparation for clean output
  • Production checks before fabrication or printing starts
  • Installation planning for shops, vehicles and buildings
  • Maintenance visits for signs that need cleaning, tightening or replacement

Materials chosen for real-world use

Different signs need different materials, and choosing well makes a big difference to lifespan and appearance. A street-facing shop sign in Phoenix may need a different finish from a frosted office partition in Umhlanga or a vehicle graphic moving through Pinetown traffic every day. We work with vinyl, printed graphics, light box faces, Chromadek, Perspex and ABS because each one has a clear purpose.

We also think about how a sign will behave after installation. On the coast, humidity can affect adhesives and edges if the wrong product is used. In direct sun, colours can fade sooner without proper lamination. On industrial sites, dust and vibration can loosen fittings. Our job is to point clients toward the right option for the site and budget, not the easiest one to sell. A sign that is a bit more considered now often saves money later.

  • Vinyl cutting for lettering, logos and wayfinding details
  • Digital printing for full-colour branding and promotions
  • Print lamination for added protection against weather and handling
  • Light boxes for night visibility and strong roadside presence
  • Window frosting and contra-vision for privacy without losing light

Installation that respects the site and the schedule

We treat installation as part of the job, not an extra. That means planning access, checking the substrate, confirming measurements and making sure the finished sign is fixed properly. A sign on a shopfront in Westville cannot be treated the same as a sign on a high wall in Tongaat or a vehicle in daily use across the North Coast. The site conditions shape the method.

Our installations cover shopfronts, windows, vehicles and building exteriors, with careful attention to alignment and finish. Where needed, we also carry out sign removals and refurbishment work. Sometimes a client needs an old sign taken down, a panel updated, or a faded face replaced while the frame remains in place. In those cases, we look for the most sensible fix rather than pushing a full replacement. That practical approach helps keep costs down and reduces disruption to trading.

For many businesses, timing matters just as much as appearance. We are used to working around opening hours, site rules and municipal requirements. If there are access restrictions, parking limits or safety concerns, we plan around them and keep the process moving. A neat install, done safely, is worth far more than a rushed job.

Where you will see our work across Durban and the North Coast

BP Signs works across Briardene, Durban North, Umhlanga, Pinetown, Ballito, Tongaat, Verulam, Westville and Phoenix, with projects for retail, commercial, industrial and property clients. That spread means we see many different signage needs, from estate notices and office branding to site boards, directional signs and promotional banners. The area shapes the brief, and each brief has its own requirements.

We are often asked for region-specific support, so clients searching for Durban North Signs, Umhlanga Signs, Pinetown Signs, Ballito Signs, Tongaat Signs, Verulam Signs, Westville Signs or Phoenix Signs can get help from one team rather than juggling several suppliers. Whether the brief is a small frosted panel or a full set of printed and fabricated signs, the same process applies: understand the space, prepare the artwork, produce the sign, then install it properly.

Our work also includes recurring maintenance visits for clients who want their signage kept in good order. Fittings loosen, graphics age and business details change. Regular checks help a site stay presentable and consistent, especially where public-facing branding matters every day.

What clients can expect from the first enquiry

Most clients come to us through the enquiry form on our contact page, then we take it from there. The first step is usually to understand the site, the purpose of the sign and the timeline. Some jobs are straightforward, while others need more input, such as artwork changes, site measurements or advice on materials. We keep the conversation plain and useful so the client knows what is happening and why.

From there, we work through the right combination of services. That may include a site survey, artwork setup, large format printing, vinyl cutting, fabrication, lamination, window installation, vehicle installation, shopfront installation or a maintenance visit. If a sign needs to be refurbished rather than replaced, we will say so. If a job will need more weather protection because it faces strong sun or coastal air, we will flag that too. The point is to give a clear result, not a complicated one.

BP Signs is a local business, and that shows in how we work. We know the value of being reachable, organised and honest about what can be done. A good signage supplier should make the process easier, not harder. That is the standard we keep to on every job, from a single panel to a full site rollout. We take pride in doing the ordinary things well, because that is what clients remember.
